Beginner friendly. No experience needed.

Welcome to Oregon Coast Dance Center!

We're so excited you're considering joining our dance family! Starting dance is an exciting milestone, and we're here to make the process simple. Here's everything you need to know before your first class.

Remember, every experienced dancer was once a beginner.

We know that trying something new can feel overwhelming. That's why our teachers focus on creating a positive, encouraging atmosphere where dancers feel safe to learn at their own pace.

Mistakes are part of the learning process. Questions are welcome. Growth is celebrated. We believe confidence comes from showing up, trying something new, and having fun along the way.

Your dancer belongs here, even if they've never taken a dance class before.

It’s Our First Day of Dance! What Can We Expect?

Q: How early should we arrive?
A: Arriving 5-10 mins prior to class starting is adequate, especially if a dancer needs to change or purchase some dance attire. Please note, the studio open 15 mins prior to the first class of the day.

Q: What happens on the first day?
A: When it’s time for class, the teacher will invite students into the dance room, take a moment to introduce themselves and take roll, then lead the class through a movement-based warm-up, dance combinations across the floor or around the room, and finish with a short dance. For younger dancers, the teacher may also incorporate a simple dance game or activity as an icebreaker.

Q: Can parents watch?
A: Parents are welcome to watch through the large viewing window, but we ask that they remain in our lobby to minimize distractions and help dancers stay focused.

Q: What if my child is nervous?
A: It’s completely normal to feel nervous when starting something new! Our instructors are great at helping new dancers feel comfortable, and the best thing you as a parent or guardian can do is offer encouragement, remind them you’ll be right in the lobby, and let them know they’re going to have a great time!

Q: What should they bring?

  • Students should come prepared in the appropriate dance attire outlined in our dress code. We do sell dancewear and shoes at our front counter and keep a good selection in stock.
  • Water bottles are welcome, but juice, sports drinks, and other beverages are not allowed in the dance or tumbling rooms.
  • Dancers with longer hair should bring a hair tie to keep hair pulled back and out of their eyes for safety.
  • Most importantly, bring a good attitude and a willingness to work and have fun!

"My daughter has been dancing with OCDC for the last 10 years. Ms. Lisa is the best! She teaches the skills & techniques needed for dancers to learn & grow. She encourages & motivates. We love OCDC!" -Denise W.
